BOOK:Liberation by Gail Blowe

This book is a compilation of three ficticious short stories that involve three different women and their relationships.

Domestic violence, spousal abuse, and infidelity.

Despite the overwhelming
information, self help groups, and
support groups that are abundant,
domestic violence is still
prevalent today.

Gail Blowe is a native of Hampton, Virginia and a graduate of Virginia State University. She has been writing poetry and short stories since she was a young girl. She is also a songstress of Gospel, Jazz, Contemporary music, and the Blues. Gail is also known for her extensive work and research as a genealogist throughout the Hampton Roads area as well. She has three completed works and contemplates more in the future.

Vanessa was sitting in a cold room with one blanket and a lumpy used twin mattress on a concrete floor trying to sleep. There is a leaky water hose and drainage hole in the floor so that the water won’t fill the room if it were left on. The walls are also concrete with no pictures and there is no heat except for the vent that was in the ceiling which was the floor of the master bedroom above. There was no light, clocks, radios or windows only a flickering lamp that had to be used sparingly. The toilet was an old green paint bucket with a broken handle.

As she sat on the floor shivering she wondered how in the world she got in this predicament.

Excerpt from Sweet Bitter Sweet

The day Allen left was difficult for all of them. Gracie had to drop him off at the base and see him board a bus there. The family stuck around to support both of them during the transition. Gracie cried and cried, hating to see her husband leave. She was crushed that her husband was leaving her for the first time in their marriage. Her mother stood with her and the boys as Allen boarded the bus and blew him a kiss. He gave the boys their secret hand shake that they made up themselves. The boys stood tall with tears running down their faces. Nannie kissed him and said, "Go kick some ass for ole' Nannie. Do you need me to go with you? 'Cause I can tote one of them guns if you let me. I need a hat and one of them tags round my neck so it fit in with my shift." Everyone fell out laughing with tears running down their faces. Nannie was concerned as she stepped back with one tear streaming down her cheek.
